Fasting In Shawwal, The most important and blessed day of the Islamic calendar is Ramadan. “Whoever Fasts Ramadan, then follow it with six days (of fasting) of Shawwal, it as if he fasted the entire year” (Muslims)

Strong Believer and Weak Believer

Fasting the six days of the month of Shawwal is a sign of increased faith. The normal heart will perform the compulsory acts while the heart that has an increased amount of faith will perform non-obligatory worship as well. The fasts in Shawwal help to attain the love of Allah SWT and is a way becoming a prominent and strong Muslim. As narrated by Hazrat Abu Hurairah RA:

“The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, though there is good in both. Be avid for that which benefits you. Rely on Allah and do not deem yourself incapable…” (Muslim)

“Whoever fasts Ramadan, and then six days after Eid, it is [like fasting ] an entire year. Whoever does a good deed shall have ten times its reward.” (Ibn Majah)

Compensation

The six fasts of Shawwal are a compensation for one’s lacking during compulsory fasts of Ramadan. Not only they are a great compensation, but as it is a nafl action, so it is very dear to Allah SWT. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:

“The first thing for which people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be their Salah (Prayer). Our Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, will say to His angels – although He knows best – ‘Look at the salah of my Slave, whether it is complete or incomplete.’ If it is perfect, it will be recorded as perfect, and if someone is lacking, He will say, ‘Look and see whether My slave did any voluntary (nafil) prayers.’ If he did some voluntary prayers, [Allah] will say, complete the obligatory actions of My slave from his voluntary actions.’ Then all his actions will be dealt with in a similar manner.” (Abu Dawud)
