How To Live Islam Within a Family

Strong family ties designed on the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah give the essential foundation for a cheerful and joyous house and successively contribute to the general health of a society.

On the opposite hand, members of troubled families struggle to keep calm inside and watch impotently as day to day plights tarnish and damage their relationships, and as a result grapple with daily stress in their lives.

In severe cases, this would possibly end in corrupting the foundations of societies. As members of the family, therefore, everybody has the duty to take the mandatory measures to strengthen these foundations. As Allah says in the Quran.

َاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ سَكَنًا

And Allah has made for you from your homes a place … { Surah al- Nahl: 80}

Here are some practical tips to live Islam within our families and nurture a good home.

Make Home A Place To Worship Allah

Allah has created us to worship him. This includes following His commandments and remembering Him through reverence such as prayers, Quran recitation, keeping complete faith in Allah, and so on.

How:

1. Early-riser in the home should wake up other family members for Tahajjud and Fajr prayers.
2. Offer one Salah at least in a congregation at home.
3. Make daily Sunnah Azkaars like SubhanAllahi Wabihamdihi and recite Sunnah Surrahs like Surah Yasin after Fajr prayer and Surah Mulk before sleeping and so on.

Keep Satan Out Of House

It is clearly mentioned in Quran that Satan is our enemy. So the more we succeed in keeping Satan’s strategies and reviles far from our lives and our homes, the less will be the battles, contentions, mistaken assumptions, and so forth, and the more will we make the most of Allah’s peace and endowments.

How:

1. When entering home every family member should say “Assalam-o-Alaikum warehmatullahi wabarakatuhoo.”
2. While leaving this should be recited, ‘Bismillaah, tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, Laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa Billaah
3. Recite Surah Al-baqarah regularly.

Let Esteem, Compassion, And Trust Rules The Affairs Of The Family

In a family unit every individual is special and unique thus each deserves to be respected. Having an understanding of between and solving issues in the light of Islam helps in making the household more favorable for productive problem resolving.

How:

1. If there is an argument going on in between two family members one should stay quiet to end the quarrel.
2. Exercise the use of tongue with great care.
3. Family matters should stay private to uphold each other’s trust.

Promote A Culture Of Islamic Learning And Knowledge

Sharing of Islamic wisdom regularly is the way of fostering an Islamic environment at home. Beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to remind and teach his wives quite regularly so we need to practice it as well.

How:

1. The matters of halal and haram must be discussed.
2. Reading Islamic literature and books will help to instill a love of Islam.
3. Remind each other of good and prohibit from the bad.
