
Landmark: The Historical Mount Uhud
Just outside Madinah stretch out Mount Uhud. This jagged hill of desert rock cuts a stark outline against the light blue sky. Against this stony backdrop, the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ forces came up against the Makkan army which results in losing the fight and many martyrs. This is a mountain from the mountains of Paradise.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ love for Mount Uhud
Mount Uhud is a remarkable place that increases the beauty of Madinah swarming with the fragrance of Islamic history. There is a famous hadith of beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in love of Mount Uhud:
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace, and blessings be upon him, said,
“Verily, the mountain of Uhud loves us and we love it,” Sahih Muslim 1393
Features of Mount Uhud
Mount Uhud is the largest mountain in Madinah situated in the north of Madinah. It is situated at a distance of five kilometers from Mosque Nabvi. It consists of a seven km long series of mountains from east to west having three kilometers in width.

Jabal Rumaa: The Archers Mountain
The fifty archers stood on this mountain during Uhud battle. They were ordered to remain standing guard at the mountain and not to move at any cost. When the archers saw the Muslims winning the battle they descended the mountain and began collecting the war spoils. The disbeliever saw the opportunity so they came around the mountain and attack the Muslims from behind. This ultimately led to the defeat of the Muslims.
Uhud Cemetery
The Uhud cemetery is also located at the Uhud plains. The graves of some seventy companions of Prophet ﷺ lie within a high fenced wall. These companions fought with their lives to defend their beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and raise the word of Allah SWT. Amongst the martyrs are Hazrat Hamza bin Muttalib RA leader of Martyrs, Musab bin Umair, Abdullah bin Jahash and Shammas bin Uthman. These four are from the Migrants of Makkah and the rest was from Ansaar.
Mount Uhud quiver with love of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
In a famous incident when Allah’s Apostle Muhammad ﷺ ascended the Mountain of Uhud together with Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique RA, Hazrat Umar RA and Hazrat Usman RA, the mountain started shaking. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “Be calm, O Uhud! For upon you there is none but a Prophet, Siddique, and two martyrs.” [Bukhari]
Uhud Mountain is made up of rocks and stones and we are made of flesh. We have a heart that beats. Do we love Prophet Muhammad ﷺ like this mountain? Do we shake like this mountain out of love for Him?
